Nightfall for Google Drive, now with remediation

Nightfall has added remediation actions for Google Drive violations, so you can fix the issue automatically or with just a click.

Nightfall for Google Drive is one of our most popular integrations, helping customers to discover and classify sensitive data across Google Drive. Once sensitive data violations are found to exist in Google Drive, you want to take steps to protect the data - because removing the risk is really the point, isn’t it? By immediately restricting Google Drive files with violations, either automatically or with just a click, security teams can buy time to examine the sensitive findings and reduce the likelihood that sensitive data will be proliferated or exposed in the meantime.

Automated remediation - automatically restrict file-sharing, or notify the file owner

For users who want to completely remove steps from the DLP process, Nightfall now offers the ability to automate remediation actions. When a Policy violation is triggered, Nightfall can be configured to automatically notify the file's owner, or to adjust file-sharing settings for the affected GDrive file. Available file-sharing remediation actions center around making the file-sharing more restrictive, and include:

• Restrict the link-sharing settings (e.g. limit the link sharing to within the organization, or restrict the link to users who have been explicitly added.)
• Remove external or internal users from the link-sharing list.

(Note that available remediation options depend on the pre-existing link/sharing settings.)

Manual remediation - restrict file-sharing from the Nightfall alert

If you prefer, you can also review each violation and perform manual remediation. Upon receiving a violation alert for a Google Drive file, Nightfall admin users can adjust permission and access settings for the affected Google Drive file with just a click. Manual remediation actions center around making the file-sharing more restrictive, and include:

• Restrict the link-sharing settings (e.g. limit the link sharing to within the organization, or restrict the link to users who have been explicitly added.) 
• Remove external or internal users from the link-sharing list.

(Note that available remediation options depend on the pre-existing link/sharing settings.)

Log remediation actions

Once the remediation action is taken, a follow-up message will be sent to configured alert platforms (e.g. Slack, webhook, and/or email)  to show that the remediation action was taken. This lets other Nightfall admin users see that the issue has been resolved, to avoid duplicative efforts. 

Remediation action alerts also facilitate tracking and logging in order to demonstrate DLP compliance - for example, webhook alerts can be used to log remediation actions in a SIEM.
